Under the busy platforms of Waterloo station lies a public walkthrough tunnel around 300 metres long. What makes this tunnel unique however, is that it's an authorised graffiti zone and is home to some of London's very best street art.

Octagon were tasked by L Harvey & Son to install a comprehensive CCTV system inside the Leake Street tunnel. The environment of the tunnel made for quite a challenging installation, with low natural light levels and the risk of cameras being vandalised. However we were able to draw on our valuable 30 years of experience and work with L Harvey & Son to design a system that was comfortable in the tunnel, making light work of any initial concerns.

The CCTV system consists of 26 cameras covering the length of the tunnel, linked to a control room which has been kitted up with recording and viewing equipment for monitoring of the system 24/7. For the cameras, we explored the various options available to us, to ensure we selected the most appropriate equipment for the project. This meant they needed to have excellent low-light performance, vandal resistant enclosures, and of course high definition video recording. The control room is equipped with state of the art recording equipment and software, allowing the security team to monitor a live feed of the cameras, or playback the footage for review at a later date
